1975 Downeast 32

SV Jenny Lee is a 1975 Downeast 32, designed by Bob Poole as a comfortable and capable pocket Cruiser.  Currently on the hard at the Sea of Cortez cruisers favorite Cabrales Boat Yard in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.  SV Jenny Lee is easily viewed just 1hrs South of the Border and 3.5Hrs South of the Pheonix, AZ airport.

One of the unique features of this boat is that it has an all electric engine system that was installed in 2021 compete with a solar arch and a 48 volt charging system. She has been sailing in the northern Sea of Cortez and is now waiting to keep up the adventure and sail over the horizon.

PROPULSION

-The propulsion system consists of a Thunderstruck Motors sailboat kit. 12KW liquid cooled 48volt system. Note: liquid cooling system is not installed but is included. The batteries are lead acid(4x). Charging is from 400-watt, 48 volt solar panels mounted on a s.s. solar arch. Shore power charging is installed but not connected to either 48 volt or 12-volt (house) system (never needed).

-The propeller is a 10” bronze 3 blade.

ELECTRICAL/SOLAR

-The new electrical designed by a boating engineer at PYS, Canada.
-The 12 volt and 120-volt electrical system is new including Blue Sea breaker panels.
-The 12-volt system is solar charging with 100-watt panel.
-The 48-volt system is solar charged with 400 watt panels.
-The shore power system is mounted but not connected.

HULL/DECK

-All portlights replaced with Newfound Metals bronze operable lights. The cabin sides rebuilt with ply and fiberglass and cut to new portlight sizes.
-The deck scuppers and hardware were all removed and holes patched. Fiberglass
scuppers were made and installed, epoxied through the bulwarks.
-The toe rail cap was removed, and fiber glassed over for waterproof seal.
-Hardware was removed and holes “drilled filled and drilled” for waterproofing.
-Deck and bulwarks were all sanded, primed and painted and with new anti-skid material.
-The mast step was built up on the deck with fiberglass and epoxy for better drainage and   a new stainless steel mast step base was made.
-A new companion way siding hatch cover (turtle) made and installed.
-The bow sprit was replaced with a new “clear” Douglas fir sprit.
-The anchor roller platform was replaced with a new one made out of hardwood.
-New stainless steel anchor roller installed.

STANDING RIGGING

-S.S. shrouds were sent to rigging shop in California for inspection. The forestay and back stay were replaced.
-The mast and boom(s) were inspected and repaired as needed.
-A new CDI flexible roller furling jib installed.-All chain plates were replaced with new s.s. plates and backing plates and moved to the outside of the hull.

RUNNING RIGGING

-All running rigging was inspected and replaced as needed.
-All winches were cleaned and lubricated.
-New custom bimini with stainless steel frame and marine Sunbrella fabric.
-New mainsail lazy jacks/bag/cover.
-New staysail cover
-New main sheet traveler

BELOW DECK

-All cushions replaced with new foam and cloth upholstery.
-2 top loading ice boxes.
